Upon winning, Rami Malek dedicated the award to Freddie Mercury.
Last Sunday, January 6th, the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, an awards ceremony that highlights the best work in film and television. One of the biggest highlights of the event was the biopic of Freddie Mercury Queen bandmates , Bohemian Rhapsody .
The film won the award for Best Drama Film , beating out Black Panther , BlacKkKlansman , and If Beale Street Could Talk . Actor Rami Malek , who played Mercury in the production, won the award for Best Actor in a Drama , beating out Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Lucas Hedges, and John David Washington.
Upon receiving the award, Malek thanked Queen and band members Roger Taylor and Brian May , who were at the event, and took the opportunity to dedicate the Golden Globe to Freddie Mercury: “Thank you for giving me this joy. I love you, beautiful man. This is for and because of you, you gorgeous thing.”
Shortly after the ceremony, Brian May posted a photo on his Instagram with Taylor and Malek next to the award. The musicians walked the red carpet with the actor in the minutes leading up to the event.
