Body Count , the metal band fronted by hip-hop legend, actor, and director Ice-T , has just released the music video for their song "Psychopath." It's part of the band's highly anticipated upcoming album, Merciless . This is the band's first release since 2020, when they released "Bum-Rush" and won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance.
This music video features Joe Badolato from Fit For An Autopsy. Will Putney of Knocked Loose and The Ghost Inside produced the video, which was released by Century Media Records . The inspiration came from horror films and true stories, and Jay Scorsese directed it.
Regarding the song, Ice-T explained to Consequence : “It all started with the music. It was like being inside the head of a psychopath. The track was psychotic and needed me to sing about something crazy.” He also commented on how our society has psychopaths embedded in our culture.
Ice-T also spoke about the experience of filming the music video: “Body Count, we’re grindhouse. We’re like a Tarantino movie, where it’s so violent you can laugh. At some points in the song it’s Body Count. And other times, it’s just fun. Stepping into the shoes of a ‘psychopath’ was fun.”
Body Count's next album
Merciless will be the band's next album, their last release being Carnivore in 2020. Despite being highly acclaimed, its release coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic, which brought the entire world to a standstill.
In February, Ice-T spoke to Metal Hammer about what to expect from this new album: “I think we’re heading in the same direction. Manslaughter [from 2014] was a reintroduction to BODY COUNT, not just for our old fans, but for a whole new group. Bloodlust [from 2017] was even better, and Carnivore was better than Bloodlust . We’re going to continue in the same vein, sound and production, but make increasingly better records.”
