Body Count , the rap and metal band led by multi-talented artist Ice-T , has released a music video for their cover of Pink Floyd featuring legendary guitarist David Gilmour . This is the band's third video, released as they await the arrival of their next studio album, Merciless .
The single, released on audio platforms a few weeks ago, now features a dramatic music video, interspersing studio footage with scenes related to the new version of the lyrics written by Ice-T. David Gilmour appears playing solos reminiscent of those in the original song.
Jay Scorsese is directing yet another Body Count music video. In addition to "Comfortably Numb," he also directed the videos for the band's other singles released this year, "Psychopath" and "F*** What You Heard."
In the description of the official video available on YouTube, Century Media Records released a statement from Ice-T about the track, check it out:
“For me, “Comfortably Numb” is an introspective song—it’s me acknowledging that I’m older now. I’m telling the new generation that you have two choices: you can keep the fire burning or you can give up. It’s me trying to make sense of what’s happening, but also pointing out that we’re all in a place where we don’t have to face reality. We have flat-screen TVs and popcorn, and we can just sit back and watch the chaos of the world as if it were a TV show. It doesn’t seem real until it shows up at your door. I’m a little numb too—we all are.”
Body Count and the tradition of cover songs.
Body Count will release their eighth studio album on November 22nd of this year with Merciless . It will be the successor to the acclaimed Carnivore , from 2020, which earned the band a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the track “Bum-Rush”.
Since Manslaughter in 2014, Body Count has included at least one cover of a rock classic in their album setlists. On that occasion, the chosen song was "Institutionalized" by the legendary Suicidal Tendencies . In Bloodlust , released in 2017, the band created a cover by combining two thrash metal classics, "Raining Blood" and "Postmortem" by Slayer . In Carnivore Motörhead anthem Pink Floyd 's "Comfortably Numb," the band maintains this pattern.
