They say first impressions are definitive when you meet someone. Before David Bowie became close friends with Mick Jagger during the 1990s, a phrase uttered by the Rolling Stones at a concert was forever etched in the memory of the Chameleon of Rock.

Michael Parkinson 's show Little Richard perform , one of the British musician's idols.

“The first time I saw him, I think it was in 1963 (…) and the Rolling Stones were opening for him, it was the first time I saw them. And they weren’t very well known, about six young people ran to the front of the stage, you know? That was the band’s fan base at the time, everyone was there for Little Richard,” he said. “And it was priceless! I’ve never seen anything so rebellious in my whole life.”.

At the time of the show, Bowie was only 16 years old and was impressed by Jagger's attitude when a man in the audience shouted that he should cut his hair. “And Mick said – and I’ll never forget these words – ‘Why? To look like you?’”, Bowie continued, perfectly imitating Jagger’s voice. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is the future of music, I’m sure of it.’”
