Morton said it was important to him that people close to Chester were okay with the release
Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton spoke in an interview about the song with Chester Bennington . He said he needed the "blessing" of people close to Chester before releasing "Cross Off" .
“I don’t want to go into too much detail, but, for sure. There are certain people I needed to be okay with, and they were. I’m very grateful. Especially because I know how much Chester loved that song. He didn’t need to work with Mark Morton from Lamb Of God. But he treated it like it was the most important thing he was working on at that moment. He really loved the song, that’s why he was there. And I think you can hear that in the track,” said Morton.
He added: “I’m so happy to have had this experience with him. To have this time with him, to collaborate and write a song with Chester. He was great to have around, great to work with. He was very, very prepared with lots of ideas. He was very excited for the fans to hear him scream again. It had been a while since he’d done that. He loved it. It was fantastic to see his technical ability live. He was a great guy.”
