Geezer says the band preferred to tour
In an interview with Music Radar, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler revealed that the band had plans to make a blues album after the release of their last album, "13". The musician said:
“The album following '13' was going to be a Blues album, but the tour got in the way. It would take two or three years to make the album properly, and we thought that maybe we wouldn't all be here anymore after that time, so it would be better to do one last tour first and maybe make a Blues album afterwards.”
The interviewer then says that if the album had been made in a jam session, it wouldn't have taken so long: “Probably not, we would have had to vary things instead of doing ten songs of the same twelve-bar blues. But even during the 'Heaven and Hell' tour, Tony would jam on blues riffs for eight or nine minutes, and every night was different. So, who knows? ”
