Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has announced that he will release an autobiography titled * Into The Void: From Birth To Black Sabbath – And Beyond* on June 6th in North America through HarperCollins' Dey Street Books imprint. There is no information yet regarding the book's release in Brazil.
Into The Void: From Birth To Black Sabbath – And Beyond is described by the publisher as “a fun, effusive and heartfelt memoir from the heavy metal musician and founding member of Black Sabbath, covering his years as the band’s bassist and principal lyricist through his later career projects and detailing how one of rock’s most influential bands was formed and prevailed.”
The publisher also highlights Butler's importance to the history of Black Sabbath and heavy metal. "Bassist and principal lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band's renown, from suggesting the band's name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose lyrics and build the foundations of heavy metal as we know it."
In *Into The Void* , Butler tells his story from his childhood, through the beginnings of the band, to more recent times. In an interview with Eddie Trunk on Trunk Nation in April 2022, Butler confessed to having finished the book: “[It’s] done. I sent the manuscript three weeks ago, so now I’m just waiting for the edited version to come back so I can freak out. The problem is, since I sent the manuscript, I’ve thought of seven things I left out. So, I’ll probably drive them crazy now.”
Geezer joins his Black Sabbath colleagues in releasing his autobiography. Ozzy Osbourne released his memoir I Am Ozzy in January 2010, while Tony Iommi released Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven And Hell With Black Sabbath in 2011. Ronnie James Dio, who temporarily replaced Ozzy in the group, had his memoir, Rainbow in the Dark: The Autobiography , released posthumously in 2021 by his widow Wendy Dio.
