In this week's Wikimetal poll, the song "Black Sabbath" was voted the best first track, with 30% of the votes. In second and third place were "Hit The Lights" by Metallica with 27%, and "Welcome To The Jungle" by Guns N' Roses with 17%.

The song "Black Sabbath" opens the legendary album Black Sabbath , considered by many to be the cornerstone that marks the beginning of the Heavy Metal movement in the world.

Released on Friday the 13th (in February 1970), the song begins with 37 seconds of rain, thunder, and bell sounds preceding the famous riff composed of 3 notes that, combined, form the tritone, a sound that was forbidden in the Middle Ages for "attracting the devil," according to religious figures of the time.

The lyrics, written by bassist Geezer Butler, showcase the power of a band that would become timeless.

What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me
Turn around quickly, and start to run
Find out I'm the chosen one
Oh, no…
Big black shape with eyes of fire
Telling people their desire
Satan's sitting there, he's smiling
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh, no, no, please God help me.
Is it the end, my friend?
Satan's coming 'round the bend
People running 'cause they're scared
The people better go and beware
No, no, please, no.
