Did Black Sabbath plagiarize a song by Vanusa? Listen here and draw your own conclusions

A major figure in Brazilian music passed away this Sunday, the 8th

Vanusa , a major figure in Brazilian music, passed away this Sunday, the 8th, at the age of 73. With the internet mourning the singer, many of her works resurfaced, including "What To Do," which became known among metal fans for its similarities to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," a heavy metal classic.

The controversy first arose in 2013 when some international bloggers compared the two songs to show their similarities. "What To Do" was recorded in early 1973 – and released on the singer's self-titled album – and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" at the end of that year, so jokes began to circulate claiming that Black Sabbath copied the Brazilian singer's song.

At that time, in an interview with plus55.com , Vanusa said she didn't believe in plagiarism and considered what happened a musical coincidence. "I heard their song for the first time two years ago and was convinced that they didn't copy me, nor that my composers plagiarized anything from them," she said.

See below for the similarities between the two songs.

Rest in peace, Vanusa.
