The Minas Gerais trio Black Pantera received the "Song of the Year" award from the São Paulo Association of Critics for the track "Tradução", from the album Perpétuo (2024) .
Upon taking the stage at the ceremony on Tuesday night, the 10th, co-founder and bassist Chaene da Gama dedicated the award to the mothers of the three members, Guiomar and Elvira , and also "to all mothers in Brazil, black mothers, single mothers."
“Talking about mothers is tough, and I think we managed to convey and express what we were feeling, and many people identified with it in such a beautiful, grand way. To our team, our families, our fans and friends, everyone who believes in us. To the Brazilian underground that is alive and pulsating. Long live national rock. Maximum respect. Anti-racism. No amnesty,” Chaene said in her speech.
Recently, the band also won the "Rock Artist" award at the 2025 Brazilian Music Awards – now titled the BTG Pactual Brazilian Music Awards .

The track “Tradução” stands out as one of the most sensitive on Black Pantera’s album Perpétuo (2024). In an interview with Wikimetal in 2024 , Chaene da Gama detailed how the song serves as a cathartic expression, not only about her mother, but also about the reality of many Black and marginalized mothers in Brazil who struggle and work their entire lives, even in old age, to take care of their homes and families.
The song, written with vocals and guitar and recorded on bass, caused some listeners to take offense, accusing the band of making ballads. Chaene counters: “I’m not making a ballad. I’m talking about my mother, about structural racism and how it acts in our lives.” To which drummer Rodrigo Pancho adds: “For me, it’s the heaviest lyric on the album because we didn’t want to live like this. Everyone here wanted their mother to be traveling, living in luxury. Today, with the band, we still can’t give that to our mothers.”
