The miners from Black Pantera released the track and video for "I can't breathe," a song that emerged after they were impacted by the murder of George Floyd on May 25th, and by the frequent racism in society.
The song, a blend of punk, hardcore, thrash, and groove metal, was the idea of bassist Chaene da Gama after seeing the terrible video of the event, leading him to write verses about his feelings regarding Floyd's death and a reflection on how the racial reality of Brazil is not so different, according to him.
The music video, directed by Leonardo Ramalho of Pajé Filmes , shows vocalist Charles Gama being hanged by a single white hand, symbolizing that white racists, even though they are a minority worldwide, still have power to exercise their prejudice and violence against the black community.
The band, whose name is inspired by the American revolutionary party, the Black Panthers , has always voiced its opinions and taken a stand against prejudice. "We know the importance of giving a voice to those who cannot be heard, as well as singing—even if in a harsher way—about equality, respect, and unity, and against any prejudice; especially racial prejudice," says Chaene.
