A worrying situation is mobilizing the extreme metal scene and authorities in Norway. Two black metal musicians are being sought after disappearing in a mountainous region near Tjønnstua.

According to an Instagram by Dagur Gíslason of the band Misþyrming , musicians Snorre W. Ruch (founder of the legendary Thorns ) and Rune “General Gribbsphiiser” Røstad (guitarist and bassist of Slagmaur ) went for a walk together last Tuesday when a severe storm hit the area. Since then, the musicians have not been seen again, although the initial plan was to return home the following morning.

Dagur commented on the situation on social media:

“A large search operation is currently underway by our friends Snorre W. Ruch and General Slagmaur in the mountains of Fosen. They have not returned from a planned hike they began on Tuesday, and severe weather has been reported in the area.”

He further added, requesting local assistance: “If you are in Central Norway and can help, please contact the Head of Fire and Rescue Operations in Fosen. Please help us share this. We are following the updates in the local peninsula newspaper, Fosen-folket.no.”

Searches in the Fosen region

The local newspaper cited, Fosen-folket.no , reported that Norwegian authorities have already contacted the Red Cross, the fire department, and Civil Defense services to assist in sweeping the area.

According to reports, the musicians planned to walk inland towards Tussbotna, cross the water at Teksdalsdammen, and spend the night there. Their intention was to ascend to Torsenget the following day to do some photography work.

The Red Cross is retracing the route planned by the artists, which has an estimated walking time of seven hours and forty minutes. However, authorities consider it a mystery that the car was left parked in Tjønnstua.

We hope they find the musicians safe and in good health. We will provide updates as soon as possible.

The legacy of Norwegian Black Metal

The world reveres Norway as the birthplace of the "Second Wave of Black Metal," a movement that exploded in the early 1990s and forever changed extreme music. Led by seminal names like Mayhem , Burzum , and Darkthrone , the Oslo scene gained global notoriety not only for its raw and atmospheric sound but also for a series of controversial events that included church burnings and violent crimes. It's worth remembering that Snorre W. Ruch himself is a central figure in this story, influential in creating the riffs and present at the events that marked the tragic year of 1993 in the metal community.

Musically, the style captured the essence of Scandinavia's icy and inhospitable landscapes—the same mountainous and unforgiving setting where the searches now take place. What began as a restricted and dangerous "Inner Circle" has transformed, over the decades, into Norway's greatest cultural export. Today, the country approaches Black Metal with artistic and academic seriousness, attracting fans and tourists from all over the world interested in the history and dark mystique that bands like Thorns helped to build.
