Billy F Gibbons , guitarist for ZZ Top , has announced his third solo album. Hardware will be released on June 4th and will be produced by Matt Sorum and Mike Fiorentino , as well as the musician himself.
To celebrate the announcement, the guitarist released the first single from the project, "West Coast Junkie." The song was released along with a music video which you can watch below.
The album title is a tribute to the late Joe Hardy , the legendary recording engineer who worked with Gibbons and ZZ Top since the mid-1980s. Sonically, the album was influenced by the desert circumstances in which it was recorded, as Gibbons reveals in a statement released to the press: “The desert setting, full of quicksand, cacti and rattlesnakes, is the kind of backdrop that lends an element of intrigue reflected in the sounds created there.”
Speaking about the making of the album, he said: “We were holed up in the desert for a few weeks, in the summer heat, and that in itself was quite intense. To let off steam, we simply ‘let it all out’. And that’s what ‘Hardware’ is all about. For the most part, it’s a furious rocker, but always mindful of the implicit mystery of the desert.”.
