Billie Joe Armstrong calls Lars Ulrich an "unorthodox" but "great" drummer.

The Green Day vocalist said that the drummer's creative playing style still influences others today.

Green Day recently gave an interview on The Howard Stern Show , in which drummer Tré Cool was asked about his drumming influences. He listed Ringo Starr , Keith Moon , John Bonan , Meg White , and Buddy Rich .

During the conversation, Howard then asked what they thought about Lars Ulrich. “Lars has a very unorthodox way of playing. I think he’s a very creative drummer. I think that, as far as metal drummers of his genre are concerned, people have been influenced by Metallica so far. I think there’s something thoughtful about the way he plays with other people,” replied vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong .

He continued: “But I think the way he and James Hetfield play together is in sync. Their drum beats are completely complementary to the way Lars plays. I really like the way Lars plays. He’s a great drummer.” Green Day drummer Tré Cool agreed, describing his energy as “contagious.”

Billie wasn't the first to praise Metallica . Dave Lombardo also spoke in defense of Lars's abilities.

Meanwhile, the band recently released the album Saviors and will soon be hitting the road for an extensive tour.
