Bill Ward hasn't given up on the idea of making a new album with Black Sabbath . Despite admitting he "doesn't have the skill" to return to the stage with the group, the drummer would like to go back into the studio with the original lineup.
Black Sabbath's final acts did not feature Ward: the musician left the band before the recording of the album 13 (2013) and the farewell tour due to contractual issues. The group ended its activities, but Ozzy Osbourne would have liked one more show to conclude his career with Ward on stage.
The friendship with the other band members was strained after the incident, but the drummer says he now keeps in touch with his colleagues. “I spoke to Ozzy two nights ago. A lot of things have crossed paths between us and there are new boundaries that I've had to build, but I don't think badly of them. I've worked with Tony [Iommi] since 1964, when I was 16. They are my brothers and I love them,” he said in a recent interview with the Metro .
“As far as I’m concerned, the doors are never closed with Sabbath! I’m writing like a demon, I’m living life,” the drummer continued regarding the possibility of reuniting with the band. “My biggest controversy was ‘let’s make another album’. Nothing necessarily live, because I’m thinking about what I can realistically do. Playing drums is getting harder as I get older. I haven’t spoken to the guys about it, but I’ve talked to some people in management [of the band] about the possibility of doing a recording.”
From Ward's point of view, it's possible to make new music even with health restrictions and personal limitations. "I can do this safely, even with Covid around. I can record the track in my studio in Los Angeles. I'm very open-minded about doing something like this," he concluded.
