Saxon 's lead singer Biff Byford , will undergo an emergency medical procedure. The intervention has forced the cancellation of ten shows scheduled for the summer of 2025.
Byford, who has faced heart problems in the past, announced the news via Saxon's social media channels last Thursday, June 26th. In a statement, the band explained that, following the coronary artery bypass surgery he underwent in 2019, doctors advised him to have a "routine follow-up procedure".
Biff Byford's health and next steps
Although the statement describes the procedure as "routine," the need to postpone the performances indicates an urgency. Biff Byford is recovering well and is following medical advice to ensure his long-term health.
“I’m sure that, like me, you’re disappointed about the shows we won’t be able to do,” the vocalist said. “But I want you to know that the doctors have assured me that the procedure will be quick and successful. I will make a full and rapid recovery, and then I will be ready to return to the stage.”
The band assured fans that the cancelled shows will be rescheduled and that details will be released soon. Saxon hopes to return to the stage as soon as possible after Byford's recovery.
Biff Byford has been a central figure in Saxon since the band's formation in 1977. With his unmistakable voice, he led the group through hits such as "Wheels of Steel," "Princess of the Night," and "Denim and Leather," cementing Saxon as one of the most influential bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal
