Biff Byford , lead singer of Saxon , has revealed that he has completed treatment for the bowel cancer he had been battling. In August, the British singer announced his diagnosis, which forced his band to cancel a series of dates in Europe.
In a post on Saxon's social media, Byford said that his chemotherapy treatment is complete and that he will now get back in shape so he can return to the stage soon. The frontman also said he is recording vocals for Saxon's next album – scheduled for release in 2026.
“Hi, Biff here! I just finished chemotherapy and now I’m going to focus on getting fit, cycling and recording vocals for the new album. We’re rehearsing for the UK tour, which starts in Belfast in early November. We’ll be playing the Wheels of Steel in the set, along with other songs. Udo Dirkschneider will be playing Accept ’s Balls to the Wall and Tygers of Pan Tang will have a special setlist in Newcastle. We also have a new band called Untamed Silence opening for us in Manchester and Sheffield. It’s going to be a great tour, with some tickets still available, so just grab yours and see us there. Peace and quiet,” he said [transcription via Blabbermouth ].
Biff Byford completes cancer treatment, initially diagnosed as a prostate problem.
On August 15, Biff released a video message explaining that he had undergone surgery to remove a tumor in his prostate . However, four days later, he corrected himself and revealed that he had bowel cancer. A cancer found in any part of the large intestine, including the colon and rectum.
At the time, he posted the following message on social media:
“First of all, thank you all for the wonderful messages of support. It really means a lot to me. Following Friday’s post, I would like to clarify a few things that seem to have been somewhat misinterpreted. Firstly, I would like to quickly clarify that I actually have bowel cancer, not prostate cancer, although I have had a prostate exam. Also, as reported in some media outlets, we have not postponed all of our upcoming shows, only those that coincided with my chemotherapy sessions.”
In September 2019, Biff suffered a heart attack and underwent emergency triple bypass surgery. In August 2024, he underwent another surgery to treat atrial flutter, a type of heart rhythm abnormality, or arrhythmia, that causes the upper chambers of the heart (atria) to beat too fast.
