Byford comments

Canadian journalist Mitch Lafon asked Saxon frontman Biff Byford why he thinks the band hasn't become as big as Iron Maiden. Byford replied:

“I think they had a great team around them – and still do, actually – and I think they did things a little bit better (…) I think we got a little lost in the way we composed songs and how we recorded. It would have been better if we had stuck with the winning team. That’s what I mean. It’s not particularly because of the music, the fashion or anything like that.”.

They had the right team, in the right place at the right time. They really invested in America, and we only invested half as much in America. You have to remember that we were bigger in Europe back then. That's just how things are. It's a matter of luck, as they say.”
