Ringo Starr revealed that the Beatles probably wouldn't have released as many studio albums if it weren't for Paul McCartney . The legendary drummer described his bandmate as a workaholic – an English term for someone who works compulsively.
The confession came during an interview with journalist Dan Rather for AXS TV . At the time, Starr also stated that the atmosphere among his bandmates wasn't very good, and that McCartney's insistence on work was what had the effect on their productivity.
“No, no, we didn’t get along. There were four of us guys, we had a falling out. That never affected our music, no matter how bad the fight was. In the end, we all gave our best. And those fights happened a little later, which I think was a natural thing, you know,” the musician explained.
“Suddenly, we had lives and children and you know, the effort we put in because we worked so hard was starting to fade a little, and we’re always grateful to Paul to this day.” He continues: “Because of Paul, who was the workaholic of our band, we made many more records than John [Lennon] and I would have made. We liked to rest a little more and then Paul would say, ‘Come on, guys,’ and we’d get back in.”
