A total of 733,000 records were sold during the week of the event
Record Store Day is a tradition that has been taking place since 2007 when various independent vinyl record stores come together to release exclusive titles on a specific date.
This year, the event took place on April 21st and sold 733,000 records throughout the week. Releases included singles and unreleased albums such as Bruce Springsteen 's Greatest Hits , David Bowie 's Welcome to the Blackout (Live London '78) , and Neil Young 's Roxy: Tonight's the Night Live , which topped the best-seller lists.
The best-selling single went to Led Zeppelin with the double seven-inch LP of “Friends”/“Rock and Roll” – which also marked the band's first Record Store Day release – surpassing David Bowie's “Let's Dance” in a 12-inch version. Data released by Nielsen also shows that during the week of the event, 190% more records were sold compared to the previous week, which sold 253,000 records.
