Today's review is in the Christmas spirit, so we're going to talk not just about one song, but an entire album. It's called A Christmas Carol , and it's a concept album by the Swedish power metal band Majestica .

They're not a very well-known band, but given the perfection of their work, it's worth taking some time to discuss them. The album's name is no coincidence; it's entirely based on the eponymous book by British writer Charles Dickens.

This story has become a classic and has been adapted and referenced numerous times in film and television, from Disney characters and stories to Looney Tunes, Muppets, Doctor Who , and even DC Comics.

The book, published in December 1843, tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy man who cannot stand the Christmas spirit. And the album begins with an instrumental track of the same name as the album/book.

The next two tracks, "A Christmas Story" and "Glory of Christmas," explain and provide some context about Scrooge.

After that, one day the protagonist of the story receives a visit from an old friend who had died seven years earlier, saying that his spirit could not rest in peace because he was not a good person in life, but that Scrooge still had a chance to change. This fact is mentioned in the song "Ghost of Marley".

Later, Scrooge receives visits from three other spirits, who show him parts of his past, his present, his probable future, and his afterlife. These events are present in the songs "Ghost of Christmas Past", "Ghost of Christmas Present", and "Ghost of Christmas to Come", respectively.

Among these songs are "The Joy of Christmas" and "This Christmas," which are already part of Scrooge's "conversion" into a better person.

The album ends with the song "A Christmas Has Come," where the protagonist changes completely, coming to love the spirit of Christmas and being generous to those in need.

All of this unfolds gradually and was done with great skill, managing to blend classical literature with heavy metal. Another highlight of the album is that the band used several traditional Christmas melodies and adapted them to fit the album, making the immersion even greater.
