Jesus! Nergal , frontman of Behemoth , is being accused of blasphemy after posting a photo on his social media stepping on an image of the Virgin Mary.
According to Super Express , the artist, whose real name is Adam Darski , posted a photo in 2019 stepping on an image from a photoshoot for his side project Me And That Man .
The publication led to the artist being accused of "publicly insulting the object of Christian worship in the form of the Mother of God."
“Representatives of Ordo Iuris and the Patriotic Society were informed about Nergal’s offense,” states Aleksandra Skrzyniarz , spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office in Warsaw [translation via Loudwire ]. “The Warsaw prosecutor added that during the investigation the victims were questioned and an expert in the field of religious studies was appointed. The report clearly concludes that stepping on an image of the Mother of God with a shoe is an offense against religious sentiments.”
Regarding the lawsuit, Nergal wrote, “Another lawsuit is underway. The reason? In every case the same: offense to RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS! Can you imagine this absurdity in the 21st century? Poland is mentally so far behind civilized Europe that we are literally the last bastion of the so-called “blasphemy case.” Even extremely Catholic Ireland recently removed this paragraph from its constitution. This WILL HAPPEN in Poland at some point… and yes, I am willing to be that springboard. FUCK religious fundamentalism in every fucking hole. And frankly, I’m sure I’ll win this and ALL the other cases. Just wait and see.” Check out the artist’s full comment below.
