This Tuesday, the 11th, Behemoth announced their new studio album, Opvs Contra Natvram , which promises to be "the band's most provocative collection of songs" to date.
The album is the group's 12th and is scheduled for release on September 16th. The 10 tracks on the tracklist were written during the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of them, "Ov My Herculean Exile," also had its music video released this Tuesday. The song offers a reflection contrary to the moral values and ethics practiced by society and pop culture.
Regarding Opvs Contra Natvram , Behemoth's leader and creator, Adam “Nergal” Darski , commented in a statement: “The album title means going against the grain. It’s the negative side of moral values and ethics that I’m against. I’ve seriously struggled with the destructive trends in pop culture – cancel culture, social media, and tools that I feel are dangerous weapons in the hands of people who aren’t competent to judge others. This is something I find very destructive and disturbing – and very limiting when it comes from an artist’s perspective. My middle finger to all of this.”
“There’s a song on the album called ‘Neo-Spartacvs.’ Spartacus was an iconic rebel in history who stood against the most powerful empire of all time. At the end, it’s me shouting, ‘ , and so are you !’ I want to be that spark that will bring the flame of rebellion. If there’s something that seems wrong, fight against it!”
