Behemoth 's show in Bangalore, India, has been cancelled. The band issued a statement through their official social media channels. The statement explains that members of the band and Behemoth's crew received threats from Christian religious groups.
Concerned about the band's safety, the decision was made to cancel the show because the producer and authorities were unable to guarantee the necessary safety conditions for the performance.
The official statement from Behemoth
"Behemoth regrets to announce the cancellation of the band's performance scheduled for March 3rd in Bangalore, India.".
In recent weeks, we and our team have received several credible threats from Christian religious groups who have been pressuring authorities and the event promoter in an attempt to prevent the show from taking place. These threats have raised serious concerns about the band's safety, including the possibility of arrest or physical harm.
We have been in close contact with the local promoter throughout this process. We want to make it clear that this cancellation is not the promoter's fault, who acted in good faith at all stages. Despite genuine efforts, it was not possible to obtain sufficient guarantees that the band would be protected against legal consequences or safety risks. Based on this, we have made the decision to cancel the show.
This is yet another example of religious fanaticism attempting to impose itself on artistic expression, something the band recently faced in Turkey . It is deeply concerning to see what appears to be a growing movement of censorship around the world. In the modern era, artists should not face intimidation, threats, or the risk of imprisonment for practicing their art.
Regardless of religion, race, or culture, freedom of expression must remain a fundamental principle. We believe it is important for people to unite in support of liberal values and creative freedom.
To our legion in India, we are deeply disappointed that we are unable to perform for you on this occasion. We appreciate your support and hope to return soon.
"Stay strong. Stay free.".
