The 1967 album surpassed names like Adele and Oasis
More than half a century after its release, the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has been voted the most popular British album of all time.
The Official Charts Company , which has been tracking album sales in the UK since 1969, proclaimed Sgt. Pepper the album using a metric based on sales, downloads, and streaming. The album beat out second-placed Adele 's 21 Oasis 's ( What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which came in third.
“The groundbreaking 1967 album returned home with 5.34 million combined sales topping the Official Studio Albums Chart, compiled by the Official Charts Company, and marks the celebration of National Album Day,” the company said in a statement.
