A newly discovered letter from 1968 reveals an executive concerned about the pornographic undertones of the cover
Beatles ' "Hey Jude" was almost not released as a single because of the "pornographic" content on the cover.
This, according to details in a recently discovered letter written by an executive to Apple Records.
The record label president warned the band that the cover – an apple cut in half – resembled a vagina. He was afraid that the dealers wouldn't want to keep the single.
Even so, the logo was not changed and the White Album sold over 8 million copies.
