Simon Gallup , bassist for The Cure since 1979, has announced his departure from the band after more than 40 years in the role.
According to Rolling Stone , the musician deleted his personal Twitter account, but used his Facebook profile to announce the separation to fans. "With a slightly heavy heart, [I announce that] I am no longer a member of The Cure! Good luck to them," he wrote.
Asked if his departure was due to health issues, Gallup denied it. "I'm fine... I'm fed up with betrayals," he replied on social media.
To date, there has been no official statement from the band regarding the bassist's departure. In 1982, Gallup left The Cure for the first time due to tensions and arguments with Robert Smith , but returned to the group two years later and has remained in the position to this day.
