After a statement on the American program 20/20, Streisand accidentally inspired the biggest hit of the band led by Steven Tyler.
Singer Barbra Streisand was talking about her romance with her fiancé James Brolin on the show 20/20, hosted by Barbara Walters. The couple were about to fall asleep at one point, and that's when Brolin said:
“I don’t want to fall asleep.” Streisand commented at the time, “Why not?” And Brolin replied, “Because I’ll miss you.”
It's unknown whether Steven Tyler , the Aerosmith who recently had a documentary made about his work , watched the ABC program. But songwriter Diane Warren did watch it and instantly drafted the title for "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." "I love a good title," she declared, "I do them a lot."
A few months later, the idea gained traction when director Michael Bay called, looking for a song to soundtrack his film Armageddon, and Warren coincidentally had an apocalyptic title ready. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" later became the composer's fourth Oscar-nominated song.
Twenty years later, Steisand is still married to Brolin, and Aerosmith never climbed the charts as high as with that hit. Their 1975 song "Dream On" reached number six, their 1989 song "Love in an Elevator" reached number five, their 1989 song "Janie's Got a Gun" reached number four that same year, and their 1999 song "Angel" reached number three two years earlier.
