Bad Religion commented on the important decision that Brazilian citizens will make at the polls this Sunday, October 30th, when they elect the nation's next president in a contest between Lula and Jair Bolsonaro .

The band was interviewed by Wikimetal at Aftershock 2022 , represented at the event by Estúdio Gaveta, which provided complete coverage of all four days. See the reviews and exclusive photos from the first day, featuring Slipknot , the second day, which closed with Kiss , the third day, which included Papa Roach , and the closing day with Muse and The Pretty Reckless .

At the event, Jay Bentley and Brian Baker were asked if they follow political events in Brazil, given that Bad Religion always has something to say about the world in their music – and the musicians were quite candid.

“The United States has its own problems, going pretty much in the same direction [as Brazilian politics]. Everyone was surprised that Bolsonaro achieved what he did, but things are the way they are. On the left, you have an ex-convict, and on the other side a conservative who is basically a mini Donald Trump . Everything sucks,” Jay said. “You want to root for someone, but then you also want to kick them all in the balls.”

Guitarist Brian Baker, however, found it easier to choose a side, despite having criticisms of both candidates. “And in the end you root for Lula because he’s not mentally ill, you know? Like, who hasn’t put their hand in the cash register once or twice? I can forgive vices, but when you’re truly insane and want to do evil, that’s not acceptable,” he commented. “It’s a difficult decision, but you need to speak out. (…) I’m glad to see the resurgence of this kind of… criminal delinquent that everyone likes.”
