In an interview with an American radio station, the Avenged Sevenfold vocalist spoke about the dismissal of the band's drummer, Arin Ilejay, which happened last year:
“Arin did a great job, but we felt he wasn't really on fire. And I don't think the problem was necessarily him. I think it was our personalities and how we worked together. I think he's doing great in Islander now, he's perfect for that band, but he wasn't perfect for Avenged Sevenfold.”
Shadows said the band wasn't looking to hire another drummer when they started playing with new band member Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion: “We weren't looking for a drummer (…) But we started playing and just said, 'Man, this is really good.' And he agreed. So we invited him to join the band and I feel like we're going full throttle now, in terms of music and personality.”
