Avenged Sevenfold decides not to attend the Grammys: “Fuck this waste of time. Lack of respect for Rock.”

The "Best Rock Song of the Year" category was removed from the main event

Following the Grammys' decision not to include the "Best Rock Song of the Year" category in the televised awards ceremony, Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows announced his decision not to attend this year's Grammy ceremony.

In an interview with Eddie Truck, Shadows said:

“Yes [it’s true we won’t go]. It’s not really a protest, but fuck them. Hotels, planes, tickets to the event for the wives – the whole thing would cost $150,000.”

The vocalist continues: “And then they take the “Best Rock Song of the Year” off TV and put us in a side event that nobody gives a damn about? Fuck this waste of time and money. Total lack of respect for Rock.”

Analyzing the Metal scene as a whole, M. Shadows concludes: “When you look at Metal, it’s probably one of the healthiest genres from a global perspective – every country listens to Metal. And it’s irrelevant whether Metal is mainstream or not. People will watch the show if you’re rewarding deserving bands and it’s on TV, and it helps bands move forward.”

The Grammy Awards ceremony takes place tomorrow, January 28th, and the nominees for the "Best Rock Song 2018" category are:
