The third and final day of Bangers Open Air , which brought together the headbanger community in São Paulo between May 2nd and 4th, 2025, delivered a closing as memorable as the festival itself.
Despite all the excitement and energy of the previous days, Sunday still held special moments. Among so many epic bands, surprises, and mosh pits, the highlight of the night, and one of the festival's apotheoses, was Avantasia .
Check out the coverage from our contributors Caio Botrel and Luhana Botinelly , and the exclusive photos by Jéssica Marinho .
The band, led by singer, producer, and visionary Tobias Sammet, delivered, at the very least, a magnificent spectacle. For those unfamiliar, Avantasia is a metal opera project that transcends the concept of a band, uniting renowned vocalists around powerful narratives and melodies. In fact, we can say that Tobias is a true master at bringing talent together.
Bangers Open Air with a bang.
Faced with such powerful voices, the audience's response could not have been anything else: from the beginning of the performance, the crowd sang in unison, making the Memorial da América Latina .
Overall, Avantasia's performance was excellent. Even with a brief technical issue during "The Scarecrow," the band quickly resolved the situation.
The evening featured illustrious appearances by Eric Martin , Ronnie Atkins , Tommy Karevik , Herbie Langhans , Kenny Leckremo , and Adrienne Cowan , further enriching the spectacle.
Moreover, the setlist was noticeably different from their performance in Brazil in 2023 at Summer Breeze . This time, the band promoted their new album, but also revisited the classics that thrilled a very loyal audience. Furthermore, it's worth mentioning the unmistakable stage setup, although adapted to the Bangers venue, which maintained the imposing presence so characteristic of Avantasia.
The audience sings along with the band.
Personally, one of the most emotional moments was, as usual, "Farewell," which, accompanied by the audience's chorus, brought back the feeling of being a teenager discovering the vast universe of heavy metal. In addition to that, "Sign of the Cross," which closed the night, echoed in a chorus throughout the festival.
There's no doubt that Avantasia deserves the headliner title. The magic that Tobias Sammet and his guests created on stage left a curious synesthesia in the air: the silencing of the music actually tasted like nostalgia.
We bid farewell to Avantasia with the promise of a swift return, according to Sammet, which perfectly sealed such a well-organized festival.
Finally, regarding Sunday, a brief mention should be made of Black Pantera, who, seeing them live for the first time, positively surprised this writer. To say that this band put on a great show might sound insufficient, but what was done at 12:00 PM on the Sun Stage deserves to be remembered in light of the strength of the national scene.
With the end of the third and final day of Bangers Open Air , we say goodbye for now, with hearts full of great memories and immense anticipation for the next edition. The festival is already scheduled for April 25th and 26th, 2026, again at the Memorial da América Latina .
