The singer has been suffering from Marfan syndrome since 2016
Former Of Mice & Men vocalist Austin Carlile was hospitalized earlier this month after complications from Marfan syndrome. Now, he has shared on his social media that his surgery was successful and he has been discharged from the hospital.
“I’ve had this procedure done twice on my spine. The first time, I had general anesthesia,” he says in a tweet, “The second time, I had to do it without any anesthesia, just pain medication. Today was the first time I had to have the procedure done from my neck to my skull.”
Carlile recently revealed an interest in returning to the music world, but planned to work with a "new scene and a new sound." The vocalist was replaced in Of Mice & Men by Aaron Pauley in 2016 because he could no longer sing due to illness. If he had continued in the band , his voice could have suffered permanent damage.
Have had this procedure 2x on spine. 1st time put me completely under. 2nd I did it w/ no anesthesia but low meds. Today was the 1st time doing it underneath skull through base of neck. The “CRUNCH” & “CRACK” of tissue/muscle as needle forced through nearly made me call it 😂 pic.twitter.com/N4DGLPC0Ua
