On Tuesday, March 23rd, August Burns Red announced that they will release the Guardians Sessions on April 16th. To accompany the announcement, the band released the unreleased track "Icarus," which will be included on the project.

The Guardians Sessions EP features six tracks in total, including B-sides, covers, and reimagined versions. It will include some of August Burns Red's most recent releases, such as a metal version of the theme song from the HBO Westworld , and a cover of the classic "Chop Suey!" by System of a Down.

Bassist Dustin Davidson commented on the new track “Icarus,” in which he sings for the first time on an August Burns Red song. “'Icarus' was a b-side from Guardians because it didn't fit the vibe of the album. I'm happy that our fans can hear it now because it's riffy and super fun to play on guitar,” he said.

Guitarist JB Brubaker also spoke about the new EP, explaining that the project arose mainly because of the tracks “Standing In The Storm” and “Icarus,” which were left out of the 2020 album Guardians . “When all tours were cancelled in March 2020, we started working on some covers and reimagined versions of some songs from Guardians ,” he reported. “These songs were recorded in the summer of 2020. We wanted to be productive during this downtime and work on a project that would be fun for us and our fans,” the musician added.
