São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will host, for the first time in Brazil this week, the stoner rock band Asteroid , straight from Sweden. The power trio has been active for almost 20 years and is considered one of the classic formations of the genre in Europe, an influence on the new generation and respected by equally important names in stoner rock, such as Graveyard , Mars Red Sky , and Kadavar .
In São Paulo, Asteroid will play on December 6th at Jai Club, as part of the SIM São Paulo 2019 festival. As guest bands, the production companies Abraxas and Powerline, responsible for the national tour, have lined up two sensations of the national stoner rock scene: Spiral Guru , from Piracicaba (SP), whose new album Void has received a flood of positive reviews (including internationally), and Weedevil , the new band of drummer Flavio Cavichioli (ex- Forgotten Boys , Pin-Ups ), who will be playing their first show this Friday.
The following day, December 7th, the Swedish power trio's performance in Rio de Janeiro will take place at La Esquina, with the participation of three bands from the Abraxas label: the opening act will be the supergroup formed by Pedro Salvador ( Necro , Messias Elétrico ), Paulo Emmery (guitar, Beach Combers , Auramental , Lunares ), Vicente Barroso (drums, Auramental , Lunares ) and Rodrigo Toscano (bass, Psilocibina, Earthless ), and also the two Rio de Janeiro bands that were finalists in the opening selection for Brant Bjork in October, Muladhara and Neon Desert .
Asteroid is Robin Hirse (vocals and guitar), Jimmi Kohlscheen (drums), and Johannes Nilsson , the band's founding bassist and also brother of Joakim Nilsson , frontman of Graveyard . “We've been waiting a long time for this tour! Since we started in music, we've received messages from Brazilian fans. The feeling, a little strange, is of returning home, a home we've never been to before,” says the bassist.
Nilsson states that he intends to explore some of Brazil's musical production and has already indicated that they will remain in the country for a few extra days to absorb inspiration from the Brazilian atmosphere. "We plan to take some time off in Rio de Janeiro to create new music."
For fans of rock with lots of riffs, Asteroid is a great option for the start of December on the tour schedule in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. "We love riffs, without a doubt!", confirms the bassist.
