John Lennon's killer revealed his plans to his wife two months before committing the crime

Mark Chapman has been imprisoned for 37 years and is, once again, requesting parole

John Lennon 's killer , Mark Chapman, has filed another request for parole, but a new statement from his wife may prevent this from happening.

In an interview with The Mirror , Gloria Hiroko Chapman revealed that Mark told her he would kill the former Beatle two months before committing the crime. According to his wife, he hadn't carried out the plan earlier out of love for her. Gloria also confessed to insisting that Mark get rid of the gun he used.

“I knew it was Mark. How did I know? Two months before, Mark went to New York. He came home scared, telling me that, to gain fame, he planned to kill John Lennon (…) The only reason I accepted another trip from Mark [to New York] was because I believed him when he said he needed to grow as an adult and a husband, and needed time to think about his life (…) He said he threw his gun into the ocean, but he lied to me.”

Mark Chapman murdered John Lennon on December 8, 1980, in front of the house where the former Beatle lived with his wife, Yoko Ono . Chapman was sentenced to 20 years with the possibility of life imprisonment and has been incarcerated for 37 years. He has filed for parole several times over the years, but all have been denied.
