The decision was made because of the controversy with the singer Tim Lambesis.
The Spanish festival Resurrection has removed the band As I Lay Dying from its 2019 lineup. The decision was made because of the controversy surrounding vocalist Tim Lambesis , who returned to the band earlier this year after serving two years of a six-year prison sentence. Lambesis was found guilty of attempting to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife.
In a statement, the festival said that:
"Given the controversy following the announcement of As I Lay Dying for next year, we would like to emphasize our absolutely condemnatory stance against gender-based violence. We at the festival know that this is a major societal problem to which we need to be especially sensitive."
Like other forms of intolerance and oppression, there is no place for this in our festival or in the scene we are a part of (…)
The decision to include the band As I Lay Dying in next year's edition, just as many other European festivals have done, came about because we believe in social reintegration and the rights of rehabilitated individuals. (…)
Given the debate and division created among our audience, and to maintain an atmosphere of harmony throughout the festival community, we have ultimately made the decision not to include As I Lay Dying in the next edition, after a conversation with the band.”
