Last Monday, the 16th, bassist Josh Gilbert announced that he is leaving As I Lay Dying , a band he had been a part of since 2007.
Gilbert made the announcement through his Instagram and clarified that the decision was his own. “Hi friends. After 15 years (almost half my life), I’ve decided to part ways with As I Lay Dying,” he began.
“Despite the ups and downs, I will always be grateful for the profound privilege of being able to grow up traveling the world making music with the band. None of this would be possible without the fans, so I sincerely thank you all for allowing me this opportunity. I wish AILD all the best going forward and hope to see you all soon,” he concluded.
Shortly after, As I Lay Dying released their own statement, wishing Josh Gilbert good luck and announcing that bassist Ryan Neff , from Miss May I , will be filling in for him during the tour. Guitarist Ken Susi , from Unearth , will also be joining the band as a second guitarist, replacing Nick Hipa , who left AILD in 2020.
“Josh Gilbert has decided to leave AILD to pursue other musical opportunities. Josh has been a strong musical contributor to AILD since joining us in 2007, so we are grateful for his contribution and friendship over the years. We wish him all the best and are excited to see where his new path will take him in life,” the band wrote.
