The amount of music released is 7 times greater than in the 1960s

As Spotify, Apple Music, and other music streaming platforms have become the dominant way for listeners to access music, artists are adjusting to this situation, according to The Wall Street Journal .

As summarized by UPROXX , the record collection website Discogs reports that the amount of music released worldwide since the 1960s has increased approximately sevenfold. And due to the way artists make money with music streaming services, this number continues to grow. Last year, 150,000 albums sold at least one digital or physical copy, compared to only 36,000 in 2000.

“Unlike CDs or downloads, which generate revenue only once, streaming a song generates royalties every time it is listened to. Major record labels are releasing music catalogs and re-releasing old songs as they battle for market share ,” said writer Nel Shah, who led the study.
