With about two months to go until Tokyo Olympic Games , the Brazilian artistic swimming team will try for a spot in next week's pre-Olympic event in Barcelona. And although the musical genres chosen for these performances rarely stray from samba or bossa nova, the athletes decided to innovate and make an unexpected choice: Sepultura .
Globo Esporte hosted a virtual meeting between the starting athletes Laura Miccuci and Luísa Borges , and reserve Maria Bruno , with the members of Sepultura, Andreas Kisser and Paulo Xisto , where the girls stated that they chose the band because they wanted to transmit the energy and strength that are necessary in artistic swimming. “We chose Sepultura for that reason, because you guys on stage manage to transmit that, and we want to transmit that in the pool,” says Luísa. The songs chosen by the swimmers were “Ambush”, “Attitude” and “Desperate Cry”.
Andreas Kisser responded to the choice with pride. “It’s really cool, because heavy metal isn’t usually considered representative of Brazilian music,” he comments. “But Sepultura has always been like that, we’ve always had this desire and this possibility to represent Brazilian music in our own way.”
