The cellists of Apocalyptica have released the fourth single from Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2, the highly anticipated sequel to their debut album. “The Call of Ktulu” is the latest in a series of reinterpretations of iconic Metallica , such as “The Four Horsemen”, “The Unforgiven II” and “ One”.
What makes this version of “The Call of Ktulu” particularly special is the presence of the original bass line created by Cliff Burton , the Metallica bassist who tragically died in a bus accident in 1986. The inclusion of Burton's bass line was approved by both the band and the Burton family, and represents a tribute to Burton's musical legacy.
In a statement, Eicca Toppinen , founder of Apocalyptica, said (via Blabbermouth.net ): “If you have crazy ideas, it’s always worth asking. So, I called Lars Ulrich and he loved the idea! James Hetfield also approved, and I had the honor of meeting a close relative of Cliff who confirmed that he would have loved it. It was a magical experience working on this project with so much respect and admiration.”
