During the quarantine period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rehearsals were productive and helped APNEA refine their compositions and develop their style. After months of work, the band released their highly anticipated debut album this Friday, September 9th. Sea Sound is now available on all digital platforms and is accompanied by the music video for the song "Highs and Lows".
With a sound influenced by 70s and 90s music, blending grunge, heavy metal, and stoner rock, the band APNEA built its sound with influences ranging from ASG ., Fumanchu , Alice in Chains , Soundgarden , Cave In , to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath . The album Sea Sound presents a unique and unparalleled mix of sounds, allowing APNEA to achieve originality and personality within traditional elements of the aforementioned decades.
Formed by experienced musicians with extensive national and international careers – members of the bands Ratos De Porão , Garage Fuzz , and Bayside Kings – the quartet is considered a supergroup with local hero in Brazil. Listen to Sea Sound:
About Apnea
Formed in 2019 in the city of Santos, São Paulo – the birthplace of great names in the national underground scene – APNEA emerged when Mauricio Boka invited Marcus Vinicius to share ideas he had been thinking about for a long time and to test the construction of a style and a sonic identity. After some jam sessions, they recruited guitarist Nando Zambeli , and the musical language began to define itself more clearly. Bassist Gabriel Imakawa joined to complete the quartet, which then began rehearsing frequently, composing and refining the band's style.
In August 2020, APNEA entered the studio to record their first songs, which were released in 2021 on the EP Salt Water . The material was recorded in Santos, at Electro Sound Studio, a studio run by Marcão Britto (ex- Charlie Brown Jr ). Production, mixing and mastering were handled by André Freitas .
