Anthrax kicked off their Latin American tour last Saturday night, the 13th, at MXMF The Metal Fest in Mexico City, marking their first appearance in 40 years with founding member and original bassist Dan Lilker .
The American band announced at the end of last month that, for personal reasons, bassist Frank Bello would not be able to accompany the band on their South American tour, and would be replaced by Dan Lilker, who played on the band's first album, Fistful Of Metal (1984).
In a recent interview with Metal Mayhem ROC [transcription via Blabbermouth ], Dan Lilker commented on being approached for the Anthrax reunion for the aforementioned shows: “Actually, I was contacted, I think, about a month ago… I got notice way further in advance than when everyone found out a few days ago. That’s when the press release came out. So, yeah, about a month, because I needed some time to learn some of the material, obviously, to play it properly and play it with authority as well. You don’t just want to learn; you want to play with confidence and look like you’re up there being metal and not hesitant.”
Regarding what fans can expect from the setlist of the Anthrax shows he'll be part of, Dan said: “I would just say that if you look at recent setlists, subtract a song or two and add another song or two, it would be pretty close. And as far as subtracting songs goes, nobody's going to rap too much on stage.”
