Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has released another quarantine performance. This time, the musician joins forces with DMC from Run-DMC , providing a rock and rap collaboration that will delight fans and the MusicUnites . The collaboration also features bassist Ra Diaz from Suicidal Tendencies and Rob Caggiano from Anthrax and Volbeat .
“I always wanted to do a Run-DMC medley, so in March I decided to put together an arrangement and asked these incredible people to be a part of it,” says Benante. “How can you do a Run-DMC medley Darryl McDaniels DMC? I’ve been a Run-DMC fan since I first heard ‘It’s Like That / Sucker MC’s.’ They immediately caught my attention! It’s no secret that our song ‘I’m the Man’ was inspired by Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys . That’s how much we love them.”
Benante spoke a little more about the production of the collaboration, “I asked Ra [Diaz] again because he has the rhythm and creativity to adapt to any song. I love how he put a familiar phrase at the end of the song that fit so well. I asked Rob Caggiano because I’ve always loved his style. I love the way he attacks the guitar and plays the most badass stuff. He throws in this great black metal riff here that elevates the melody to another level. We all came together to create this song that makes us move. I hope it makes you move! Maybe it inspires you to make music, play your instrument, write lyrics…”
The song is also on Bandcamp, and all profits will be donated to the MusicUnites .
