Angra was founded in São Paulo in 1991 and has undergone several lineup changes over the years. Their debut album, Angels Cry , was released in 1993 and was a success both in Brazil and abroad. Their instrumental skill is phenomenal, with virtuoso guitars, powerful bass, and impressive drums. And we can't forget the vocals! Angra's vocalists have always brought an incredible vocal range to their performances. Some of their most famous albums include "Holy Land" and "Rebirth," which helped solidify their reputation in the metal world.
Currently, the band Angra has a solid and highly competent lineup. On vocals, we have the talented Italian singer Fabio Lione , known for his exceptional vocal range and charismatic stage presence. On guitars, the duo formed by Rafael Bittencourt and Marcelo Barbosa , both virtuoso instrumentalists with incredible technical skill and unparalleled compositional creativity. Felipe Andreoli stands out on bass with his deep musicality and solid rhythmic presence, while on drums we have Bruno Valverde , a percussionist of extraordinary talent whose precision and rhythmic power are fundamental to Angra's distinctive sound.
Porto Alegre was swept away by a wave of metal on April 12, 2024, when Angra played on the Opinião stage. The crowd, all excited to enjoy a night of pure metal, nearly filled the venue, creating an atmosphere full of anticipation and fervor.
Before Angra's explosive set, the talented Jeff Scott Soto thrilled the crowd with a breathtaking acoustic performance. His return to the stage during Angra's set was met with enthusiasm and created magical moments, culminating in an extraordinary rendition of "Tide of Changes – Part I" and "Tide of Changes – Part II," followed by an incredible cover of Queen "The Show Must Go On."
The setlist was an engaging mix of timeless classics and newer tracks from the latest album “Cycles of Pain,” capturing the very essence of Angra’s power and versatility. Hits like “Nothing to Say,” “Rebirth,” and “Nova Era” had the crowd roaring with excitement, while more experimental tracks like “Morning Star” and “Cycles of Pain” showcased the depth and variety of the band’s repertoire.
The show was an unforgettable experience for everyone present. The band once again proved to be an imposing force in the international metal scene, while Jeff Scott Soto added a touch of magic with his incredible stage presence and exceptional talent. It was an event to remember, confirming why Angra is considered one of the most iconic and beloved metal bands of all time.
The band's overwhelming energy and musical skill kept the audience glued to the stage throughout the entire show, with moments of intense emotion and pure excitement following one another non-stop. The acoustic section of the concert added an intimate and reflective atmosphere, allowing fans to appreciate Rafael Bittencourt's instrumental mastery in "Silent Call" and enjoy a live performance of "Make Believe," interpreted by Fabio Lione and Rafael Bittencourt.
Even during the encore, the band didn't stop surprising, with a powerful performance of "Unfinished Allegro," followed by "Carry On" and "Nova Era," which closed the show with a final explosion of energy and passion.
With their extraordinary performance and the special collaboration of Jeff Scott Soto, Angra once again proved to be a dominant force in the world metal scene, ready to continue surprising and delighting fans around the world with their powerful and captivating music.
