Angra created as a boy band or not? Regis Tadeu had the opportunity to discuss the topic personally with guitarist Rafael Bittencourt Amplifica podcast and didn't back down from saying yes.
The music critic had already defended in several interviews the creation of Angra as a boy band, based on the "handpicked" selection of talented and "good-looking" musicians to capitalize on Andre Matos in Japan with VIPER , the previous band of the Angra co-founder.
“The term 'boy band' isn't pejorative. People say it's pejorative because the fan, that eternal idiot, associates boy bands exactly with Menudo and the Backstreet Boys,” explained Regis. “The concept of a boy band is bringing together people who weren't friends, they might even be acquaintances, but (…) most of the bands you like were formed by force of circumstance.”
Rafael Bittencourt shared his own vision of how the band came about, explaining the birth of Angra as "a collision of two projects": Andre's desire to pursue a new band and the idea for Angra that already existed in Rafael's mind. "I chose the musicians, it wasn't Toninho [manager]," said the musician.
Despite agreeing with some points in Regis Tadeu's explanation in the episode, Rafael Bittencourt reinforced his own perspective on the creation of Angra as something "very genuine" and based on real friendships. Watch below.
