Andy Rourke, The Smiths

Andy Rourke denies involvement in meeting with The Smiths.

The musician reveals that he did not agree to the meeting.

Andy Rourke, former bassist for The Smiths, has denied that he will reunite with drummer Mike Joyce and guitarist Craig Gannon for a series of shows in the UK.

Hours after the announcement of the trio's reunion , a representative for Rourke contacted Rolling Stone magazine revealing that the bassist had not agreed to do the shows, contradicting the statement that the press received with a quote from Rourke about the reunion.

Furthermore, the news came out in the same week that Rourke lost his bandmate, Dolores O'Riordan . The Cranberries vocalist was also part of the band DARK with Rourke and Olek Koretsky.

“I was very upset that a false announcement was made in my name the week I am mourning my dear friend Dolores O'Riordan ,” he told Rolling Stone.

"At no point did I let anyone speak for me. Nothing was confirmed, approved, or contracted by me or my team ," he added.

In the statement that the press received, Rourke was quoted as saying that he was excited to be involved with the Classically Smiths project, “I am very proud of the band’s work and being able to perform these songs again will be a gift to the fans .

However, the bassist's representative denied that these words were his, stating, "At no point did he agree to participate or authorize the use of his name in this way."

So far, no other member of The Smiths has commented on the situation.
