Andreas Kisser: "We never tried to replace Max"

Andreas speaks in an interview

In an interview with the website Hot Metal, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser spoke about Derrick Green and his role in Sepultura, and how the band didn't try to find a new vocalist similar to Max Cavalera:

“Since Max left, we never tried to replace him. Derrick is such a different guy, a different musician. He doesn't play guitar like most Thrash vocalists. But we use new elements and take Sepultura down new paths, experiences, and new levels. So nothing is missing. It's just that we're not trying to reproduce something that's been done before. We're doing what we do today.”

And I think that's why we're still here. We've taken Sepultura to other levels regardless of its lineup.

Derrick is an amazing guy, I'm very happy to have him with us. We've received a lot of criticism and accusations and everything else. Derrick has been here for twenty years and doing a great job. He has helped a lot to keep Sepultura alive and well.

It wasn't easy, especially since he had to fill Max's spot, because Max was very charismatic and strong on stage, all that. But Derrick found himself and his way of representing Sepultura, which is great.”
