Andreas Kisser: "We were very surprised by Eloy's decision to leave Sepultura."

The guitarist was asked if his departure was directly related to the band's farewell tour.

the most talked-about topics in the metal world in 2024 was undoubtedly Eloy Casagrande 's departure from Sepultura to join Slipknot . In an interview with Overdrive.ie ( via Blabbermouth ), guitarist Andreas Kisser addressed the issue again.

Asked if the departure was related to Sepultura's farewell tour, Kisser said he didn't know and that the question should be directed to Eloy . The guitarist continued, saying that the band was "very surprised" by the drummer's decision.

“I have no idea, man. You should ask him. Because we were very surprised by his decision,” said Kisser, stating that the tour had been planned for two years and had Casagrande's approval.

“We had been working [on the farewell tour] for two years — with him — and three weeks before the first show, he decided to leave out of the blue. It was very strange.”

Andreas also stated that shortly before leaving, the band was discussing the tour setlist and details involving stage effects.

"And he decided three weeks before the first date that we had been working on for two years to make happen, with his approval and everything — we were discussing the setlist and all the effects and everything — but he decided to go at that moment and left."

Kisser also spoke about Greyson Nekrutman and Jay Weinberg.

Greyson Nekrutman immediately came to mind because we were following him. My son, Yohan , showed me his videos, Derrick [Green] saw him playing with Suicidal Tendencies in Los Angeles, and he immediately came to mind. I called him, and 48 hours later, we were together (Laughs).”

Regarding Jay Weinberg being in Suicidal Tendencies, Eloy in Slipknot, and Greyson in Sepultura, Andreas says it's great for his band, as well as for the other drummers.

"For us, it's great. I think for Eloy, Slipknot is great too. And for Jay — maybe it was better for everyone."
