Guitarist Andreas Kisser Max Cavalera 's marriage to the band's manager at the time caused tensions within Sepultura , but denied the existence of a "beef" with the former member.

Rafinha Bastos' podcast , Mais Que 8 Minutos , Kisser gave his version of events. “There wasn't one thing that happened, it's a process. We lived together and he ended up marrying the businesswoman, which made it very difficult to do business in a rational and less emotional way,” he began. “In general, that's what distanced us as a band, as friends and songwriters, it kind of took Max out of the picture as something separate and left the rest as something else. It was never like that, we were always very close.”

In the musician's view, this type of situation is common in the rock world, and the peak of fame influences musicians' judgment. “It's a lot of money that starts coming in very quickly, everyone says you're amazing, everything is very easy to get: drugs, alcohol, women. If you start believing too much in the myth [this happens],” Kisser continued. “That time was very difficult, we were at our peak with a record label, fans, expectations. And we couldn't handle it, we didn't have the emotional foundation to deal with things.”

Despite the separation, the guitarist has no regrets and acknowledges the importance of having gone through those difficulties. “I learned a lot. [The partnership was] sensational, fundamental for Sepultura to conquer its space, especially after Chaos AD in 1994, something more original to us, a Sepultura way of being. Our chemistry was always very good; when we were in rehearsal there were no problems, the problem was the manager, family, everyone giving their two cents. 'Why don't you do this? Why don't you do something to play on the radio? This is too noisy'.”

In 1996, Sepultura informed Max of their intention to fire their manager, Gloria Cavalera , which led to the co-founder leaving the band to form Soulfly . Iggor Cavalera remained with the group until 2007, when he left Sepultura and formed Cavalera Conspiracy with his brother, a separation considered "much more peaceful" by Kisser, even from a legal standpoint.
